8″ knife brought in to the York Hospital ER

The exact knife in the feature image was in my pocket when transferred from an urgent care facility to the York Hospital Wellspan via ambulance. This is further evidence of my cognitive impairment as I would never intentionally bring a weapon in to a hospital. Imagine if I was concealed carrying a firearm?

This security blunder could have been really bad given the forecast of events to come. Even worse, how it was handled once I discovered it.

Held against their will

When I learned that I was being held against my will, I didn’t understand why. Then there was the sobering sound of the door behind me locking “CLICK” and the nurse repositioning herself to block my exit. Still not realizing what’s actually going on, I understood the severity of it. I began to relinquish my personal belongings to my wife. In doing so, I discovered that I had CLIPPED ON TO MY POCKET, my favorite pocket knife, a razor sharp, one of a kind, custom Curtiss F3 with a sheep foot blade. Dr Muhammad S Khan would shit his pants if he knew what I paid for it given his “spending a lot of money” spiel. I digress.

So what did this person, being held against their will, with an 8″ long knife in his pocket (could have been a firearm mind you) do with it? Did this patient attempt to gain their freedom by any means possible? NO, they DID NOT! They rationally relinquished the close/folded up weapon to their spouse who was sitting by their side.

The FUBAR cover-up

The nurse that was watching eyes grew large, she noticed it as the patient articulated something to the effect of “I guess I shouldn’t have this”. The nurse observed the spouse put it in her purse, made a comment (I think agreeing with what I said, but I’m not sure), and then simply turned a blind eye to the whole incident. That is Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition as she should be reprimanded at the very least, perhaps worse (send her to Philhaven, just kidding, that’d be messed up).

Allowed to keep knife in hospital

Given that the nurse turned a blind eye to it, my spouse was able to freely traverse the hospital with access to an 8″ long knife. Even right down to the psych ward, where right outside the doors, they have the visitor stow their belongings in a locker. Do you see how this COULD have turned out really bad if the patient had bad intentions?

I’m sure this whole ordeal with the knife isn’t documented anywhere, well it is now!

Honesty

Thank god for honest, rational people eh?
